IT infrastructure vendors are enduring the headwinds of server and storage markets reaching a new normal after nearly two years of record sales and profitability is replaced by more conservative customer demand. At the same time, IT organizations are adapting to post-pandemic ways of working and adjusting their strategies.

Automation of management tasks has risen in priority as IT organizations seek to shift the balance from tactical to strategic actions​

Operational challenges stand in the way of transformational initiatives

Despite some economic uncertainty impacting budgeting, according to TBR’s 2Q23 IT Infrastructure Strategy Customer Research, the top priorities for IT organizations in 2023 remain relatively unchanged from 2022: improving security and improving the reliability of IT systems. These priorities take precedence over other strategic initiatives, including cloud transformation and application modernization. Automation of time-consuming IT tasks has risen to be the third most common IT priority, as organizations seek solutions to free up valuable time for more strategic initiatives.​

Macro challenges shift

In the aftermath of the pandemic, IT infrastructure buyers are reporting fewer concerns with component and hardware shortages. On the other hand, obtaining IT funds has increased slightly as a relative challenge in 2023 compared to 2022, signaling some respondents’ concerns over the impact of economic conditions on budgets. TBR’s survey data suggests IT infrastructure budgets are more likely to be flat than to face substantial declines.​
