Quantum computing gives rise to IBM’s next brain child

On March 6 IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced its plans for early commercialization of its quantum computing capabilities that have been decades in the making. IBM’s quantum systems and services, dubbed “IBM Q,” will be available via the IBM Cloud platform and will address technically complex problems currently impossible or impractical to solve given current binary computer technologies. Key examples of previously impossible “quantum problems” include modeling the interactions of electrons to simulate the behavior of new materials or drug molecules, optimizing financial and manufacturing functions, and factoring for decryption.
