HITS vendors encounter opportunities and challenges as healthcare moves beyond the EHR to embrace emerging solutions and value-based care

The pace of healthcare IT services (HITS) growth on a trailing 12-month basis, at 7% in 3Q16, has slowed modestly from early 2016 (7.2% in 2Q16 and 7.3% in 1Q16), according to Technology Business Research, Inc.’s (TBR) recently published Healthcare IT Services Benchmark. HITS, buoyed by a wave of acquisitions in 1H16, still leads in global IT services market growth (1.7% in 3Q16 on a trailing 12-month basis, according to TBR’s 3Q16 IT Services Vendor Benchmark), but the gap is narrowing as rebounding global economic activity spurs new, though piecemeal, IT investment across nonhealthcare industry sectors.
